Matchee is a social discovery and group-matching app designed to help people meet new friends and potential dates in safe, respectful, and enjoyable environments. This Safety & Conduct Policy outlines the expectations for user behavior at Matchee-related in-person meetups and events, and explains how we handle safety concerns and reports.
This Policy forms part of Matchee's overall legal framework and should be read alongside our Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy.
1. Our Safety Principles
Matchee aims to help people connect in a way that is:
- Respectful
- Consensual
- Inclusive
- Safe
- Lawful
We do not guarantee the behavior or intentions of any user. However, we set clear expectations for how users must conduct themselves, both in the app and at in-person events.
2. Scope of this Policy
This Policy applies to:
- All in-person meetups arranged through or associated with Matchee
- All Matchee-formed group events, whether indoor or outdoor
- All interactions that occur before, during, or after such meetups
- Any transition from group events to smaller gatherings between participants
Users are responsible for reading this Policy carefully and following it at all times.
3. User Responsibilities at In-Person Events
3.1 Act lawfully
You must follow all local, provincial/state, and federal laws, including those relating to:
- Alcohol consumption
- Public behavior
- Harassment and assault
- Privacy and personal information
- Controlled substances
Illegal behavior will result in immediate removal from Matchee and may be reported to authorities.
3.2 Respect personal boundaries and consent
Every participant has the right to feel comfortable and safe.
You must:
- Seek and receive clear, affirmative consent for any physical contact
- Respect all verbal and nonverbal boundaries
- Accept "no," "stop," or withdrawal of interest immediately and without objection
- Avoid persistent advances, unwanted attention, or coercive behavior
3.3 Maintain respectful behavior
You must not engage in:
- Harassing, abusive, or intimidating behavior
- Discrimination or hateful conduct
- Aggressive, threatening, or violent behavior
- Unwanted physical contact
- Verbal harassment or sexual comments
- Stalking or following someone after the event
3.4 Avoid exploitative or manipulative conduct
This includes:
- Pressuring someone for one-on-one time
- Taking advantage of intoxicated individuals
- Attempting to isolate another user
- Offering things (rides, drinks, favors) in exchange for affection or attention
- Any predatory conduct
3.5 Participate in the spirit of group events
Users should:
- Contribute to a positive and inclusive group experience
- Use common sense and make a good-faith effort to avoid dominating conversations or behaving in ways that others may reasonably find distracting or disruptive
Note: Matchee evaluates safety and conduct reports using a reasonable and contextual standard. Reports made in bad faith, for retaliatory purposes, or without significant basis may not result in action.
3.6 Manage alcohol responsibly
Users must:
- Avoid excessive intoxication
- Not pressure others to drink
- Exercise sound judgment and maintain awareness of surroundings
- Ensure they can safely travel home afterward
4. Prohibited Conduct
The following behaviors are strictly forbidden at all Matchee-related events:
- Harassment, threats, or intimidation
- Non-consensual physical contact
- Sexual harassment or coercion
- Persistent unwanted attention
- Violence or threats of violence
- Hate speech or discriminatory behavior
- Recording or photographing others without permission
- Showing up intoxicated to the point of impairment
- Possession or use of illegal substances
- Bringing weapons to an event
- Any conduct that endangers others
Violation of these rules may result in immediate removal from Matchee without notice.
5. Reporting Safety Concerns
If you experience or witness harmful behavior:
- You may report the user directly in the app
- You may provide additional details through the reporting interface
- Your report automatically unmatches you from that user
- Matchee may contact you for clarification if needed
Reports are handled privately and discreetly.
Important:
If you feel you are in immediate danger, call local emergency services first. Matchee cannot intervene in emergencies.
6. How Matchee Handles Reports
Matchee reviews safety reports using a combination of:
- Automated systems
- Manual human review when necessary for safety, quality, or operation of the service
Matchee may take one or more of the following actions:
- Provide a warning
- Suspend the reported user
- Permanently remove the reported user
- Block the user from creating new accounts
- Take no action if the report is unfounded or incomplete
Matchee is not obligated to share investigation details or outcomes with users.
7. No-Tolerance Safety Violations
Matchee may permanently remove users who engage in:
- Violence or threats
- Non-consensual touching
- Sexual harassment or coercion
- Hate speech
- Stalking or predatory behavior
- Serious intoxication-based misconduct
- Any unlawful act
These decisions are at Matchee's sole discretion.
8. You Are Responsible for Your Own Safety
While we value safety, you acknowledge and agree that:
- Matchee does not vet or background-check users
- Matchee does not supervise or monitor in-person meetups
- Matchee does not evaluate venue safety or suitability
- Matchee does not guarantee the behavior, intentions, or compatibility of other users
- You attend all in-person events at your own risk
This means you are solely responsible for:
- Choosing whether to attend an event
- Your conduct during the event
- Your transportation and travel to and from the event
- Your interactions with others
- Personal boundaries and decision-making
9. Matchee's Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:
- Matchee is not liable for the conduct of users
- Matchee is not responsible for events, venues, or reservations
- Matchee does not guarantee safety, enjoyment, or compatibility
- Matchee assumes no responsibility for injuries, accidents, harm, or losses arising from interactions between users
- Matchee does not provide insurance, supervision, or support at in-person meetups
Your sole remedy for dissatisfaction with the App or its in-person events is to stop using the service.
10. Emergency Guidance
If you feel unsafe or need immediate help:
- Contact local emergency services
- Remove yourself from the situation
- Report the user to Matchee as soon as it is safe
Matchee cannot intervene onsite and does not provide crisis response services.
11. Updates to This Policy
We may update this Safety & Conduct Policy at any time.
Updates will be posted to our website and may also be displayed in the App.
Continued use of Matchee indicates acceptance of the updated Policy.
