These Terms are entered into between you and Matchee Technologies Inc., an Ontario corporation ("Matchee," "we," "us," or "our").

1. Introduction

Matchee ("we," "us," "our") is a social discovery and group-matching app that helps people meet new friends or potential dates. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share personal information when you use Matchee (the "App").

By creating an account or using Matchee, you agree to this Privacy Policy.

This policy applies to users located in Canada and the United States, and is designed to comply with:

  • PIPEDA (Canada)
  • CCPA/CPRA (California, U.S.)
  • General North American privacy best practices

2. What We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

  • Name and pronouns
  • Birthdate (to confirm you are 18+)
  • Profile photo
  • Short bio
  • Relationship intent (friends, dating, both)
  • Phone number (for account verification)

2.2 Information from Your Device (with permission)

Location

  • City-level information
  • Approximate coordinates (to determine proximity to events and other users)

Calendar (EventKit)

  • Titles of events
  • Time/day patterns
  • Used to infer interests and scheduling preferences
We do not store or share the names or email addresses of your calendar attendees. We may use the fact that an event has attendees (a simple count) as a signal that it's social, but we do not persist or expose who those attendees are. We do not access meeting notes, attachments, or private content from calendar events.

Spotify (via OAuth)

  • Top artists, genres, or general listening trends
  • Recently played tracks (limited slice for interest inference)
  • Used to generate interests and matching signals
We do not browse or expose your full library or private playlists to other users. We access limited listening data (such as top artists and a slice of recent plays) only to generate aggregate matching signals, and we do not show raw lists to other users. OAuth tokens are stored securely (Keychain/Firebase) and only used to refresh Spotify data for this purpose.

2.3 In-App Messaging

We store:

  • Messages you send and receive
  • Timestamps and delivery information

2.4 Automatically Collected Information

  • Device model and OS
  • Crash logs
  • Basic analytics about app usage
  • Firebase device identifiers

3. How We Use Personal Information

3.1 Operating the Core Experience

  • Creating your profile
  • Matching you with other users
  • Forming groups for events
  • Suggesting venues and generating booking links
  • Enabling direct messaging

3.2 Generating Interests and Compatibility Signals

We derive aggregated traits, scores, and interests based on:

  • your Spotify permissions (optional),
  • your Calendar patterns (optional),
  • your in-app messaging style (automated analysis only, optional and requires explicit permission),
  • your location.

These derived scores are used only to match you or place you into groups.
We do not share underlying raw inputs with other users.

Important: Calendar, Spotify, and in-app messaging analysis are optional sources that you can turn on or off at any time. Analysis of messages only happens after you grant explicit permission in the app. You can withdraw these permissions at any time from settings or by disconnecting integrations in the app.

3.3 Safety and Trust

We may analyze or review content when necessary to:

  • address safety concerns,
  • investigate reports,
  • prevent harmful behavior,
  • troubleshoot messaging issues.

Human review is limited to these narrow purposes.

3.4 Improving the Service

We use aggregated and anonymized data to:

  • understand app performance,
  • improve matching and group formation,
  • enhance user experience,
  • identify bugs or service failures.

3.5 Notifications

To send:

  • event reminders,
  • message notifications,
  • booking prompts,
  • product updates.

4. How We Share Information

4.1 With Other Users

Other users (matches and potential matches) may see:

  • Your profile photo that you upload
  • Your name and neighborhood location (city-level, not precise GPS)
  • Your pronouns and bio
  • Your interests, which may include:
    • Top artists or genres from Spotify (if you've connected Spotify)
    • Interests derived from your calendar patterns (if you've granted calendar access)
    • Other interests you've specified in your profile
  • Things you have in common with potential matches (shared interests, music preferences, etc.)
  • Group composition (when you're matched into groups for events)
  • Your event responses
  • Messages you send in one-on-one chats (matches can send you messages)

Other users will not see:

  • Your birthdate
  • Your phone number
  • Raw calendar event details (titles, attendees, notes)
  • Raw Spotify listening history or playlists
  • Raw DM analysis or message content analysis details

We do not knowingly collect data from minors.

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Request deletion of your data

Matchee is not responsible for third-party privacy practices.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this policy from time to time.
If material changes are made, we will notify you in the App or by other reasonable means.
